This is a new website and there is going to be new content here – I hate the term under construction but it is. Most new content is found on the blog.

Studio lighting, strobist lighting, or natural lighting – there are so many ways to photograph and there is no correct answer because photography is an art.

Here you will find tips and tricks on how to light with all three – and even how to mix the lights to achieve the best results.

In my photography I rely on several different lighting set ups. My studio lights are from Alien Bee – they are cheap and have great customer service. If I were made out of money I would get the bigger better and flashier lights but for now the Alien Bees meet my needs.

I use Nikon SB-800 speedlights for a bit more portable lighting set up. I can pull the studio lights out onto location but it is much easier to take the speedlights. And they do an excellent job.

We can’t forget natural light and the use of reflectors, diffusion screens and more. If you are smart and willing to experiment you can get some amazing results.

And finally, I like to mix the lights and be creative. Sometimes that means an Alien Bee main light, a Nikon Speedlight for a hair light and a reflector to act as a “gobe” or a go between to block some light.
